Tragic start to the weekend on Gauteng roads

Two adult males, believed to be the father and grandfather of two teenagers injured in the same vehicle collision north of Centurion, have died.

Gauteng roads have registered a tragic start to the weekend. 

A man in his mid-20s has died and four others suffered moderate to critical injuries in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on Main Reef Road, Rynsoord, Benoni on Friday evening.

According to ER24's Ross Campbell, paramedics arrived at 21:17 to find that two occupants from one car had been ejected and three from another vehicle had self extricated. 

"Of the two ejected, one showed no signs of life and was declared dead on the scene. The other, a man in his mid-30s had suffered critical injuries, was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions by another service and taken to a private hospital in the area,"
 said Campbell.

The three men from the second vehicle were all thought to be between the ages of 30 and 40 and had suffered moderate injuries. They were treated on scene and taken to Far East Rand Provincial Hospital for further care.

In addition, two adult males, believed to be the father and grandfather of two teenagers injured in the same vehicle collision on the corner of Wierda Road and the R55, Sunderland Ridge, North of Centurion on Friday afternoon, have died. 

"It is suspected that a truck may have rear-ended the two light motor vehicles on the scene," said Campbell. 

"A 15-year-old female was found to have suffered serious injuries, was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions before being transported to a private hospital for further care. A 13-year-old male was found to have suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a private hospital."
