'Train surfing' teen dies in Maraisburg
Local train services were suspended in order for rescuers to gain access to the top of the train.
A boy, believed to be fifteen years old, sustained fatal injuries while he was standing on top of a train near Maraisburg train station in Roodepoort on Friday.
"Shortly before 2pm, paramedics from ER24 as well as the SAPS dog unit attended the scene. Upon arrival, bystanders took rescuers to the train near the station where the boy was found on top of one of the carriages," said ER24's Werner Vermaak.
Local train services were suspended in order for rescuers to gain access to the top of the train.
Upon assessment, they found that there was nothing that they could do for him.
He was declared dead and later removed from the top of the train.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident will still be investigated.
