Trains suspended due to Soweto protest

Metrorail has suspended train services between New Canada, Dube and Mzimhlophe in Soweto.
According to a statement by the rail agency, the trains have been suspended until further notice due to a service delivery protest in the area.
"Twenty trains operating in this corridor are being held back at the yard until the area is cleared and it is safe to operate," the rail agency says.

Trains running between New Canada, Orlando and Midway corridor are not affected. Metrorail says affected commuters have been advised to seek alternative transport to get to work.
"We are committed to ensuring the safety of commuters, staff and assets and will continue to monitor the situation before resuming services."
Metrorail says while they realize the inconvenience caused, safety remains their number one priority.
