Transnet set to lift force majeure following cyber attack
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Transnet will reopen its ports on Monday after more than a week on non-activity.
This comes after a cyber-attack forced Transnet to declare a force majeure at the container terminals in Cape Town, Durban, Ngqura and Gqeberha.
Trucks weren’t able to move in either direction as a result of the attack on the rail, port and pipeline company late last week.
Transnet spokesperson Ayanda Shezi says they believe they’re now in a good place to service customers and meet contractual obligations again.
“In terms of operations, Port Terminals will continue to apply the berthing principles of the container operations contract in the container terminals.
“This is currently the most practical way of normalising operations and maintaining a complimentary port schedule for shipping lines.”
