Transport Minister showcases PRASA's People's Train
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters says South Africa's trains are old and should be taken out of service.
She showcased one of the Passenger Rail Agency's new trains in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Peters said they would be putting the R50 billion investment into the hands of the public and called on commuters not to vandalise the trains.
"It is a disservice to the people, in particular the commuters who need this service. There are people who use trains from the morning until the evening, so it is important that they always have a good quality train that will be clean, on time and safe," Peter said.
Peter said that the aim is for the trains to be manufactured in South Africa.
"Right now it is the testing and commissioning phase. We are testing the train to see whether everything is in place, everything is working according to the specifications," Peters said.
