Transport agency clamps down on illegal cross-border operators

The Cross-Border Road Transport Agency has vowed to clamp down on illegal cross-border operators in Gauteng.

The agency, which forms part of the Road Traffic Inspectorate, will conduct operations at various cross-border facilities in Johannesburg on Wednesday and Thursday.
Last week, the agency held an operation at Beitbridge Border Post just outside Musina in Limpopo.
The operation resulted in the arrests of operators with fraudulent permits and buses found to have no permits being impounded.
Executive Manager for Regulatory Services and Law Enforcement, Dr Linda Mbana, says they are at the Fleet Africa Rank on Wednesday, to check on permits and that vehicles are not overloaded.
“The main objective of the operation is to increase compliance by cross-border road operators, to identify and prosecute illegal operators. It is also intended to address the lawlessness of cross-border road transport operators in Gauteng, as well as to ensure safer roads and free flow of traffic movement.”
