Choppers and boats have been used to rescue 12 teachers and 40 pupils who were trapped overnight at Tholulwazi High School due to the storm.
The Grade 12 pupils and their teachers were attending extra tuition after school hours on Monday.

Provincial disaster management teams and SA National Defence Force members carried out the rescue mission on Tuesday.
KZN Education's Sihle Mlotshwa says they're relieved the pupils and teachers now safe.
Meanwhile, communications head Muzi Mahlambi's asked parents to use their discretion on whether they should send their children to school or not on Wednesday as many roads remain inaccessible due to the storms.
KZN's Department of Cooperative Governance says at least 45 people have lost their lives as a result of the heavy rains. But says the figure is expected to increase as more reports come in.
