Truck driver to appear in court over 8 NW pupils’ death

A truck driver allegedly responsible for the death of eight school kids will appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrates Court in North West on Wednesday.
It is alleged that the boys were heading home to Rietpan Village when the truck they were travelling in - which was being driven by the 26-year-old suspect- lost control and hit a tree.
Six kids were certified dead on scene while two passed away in hospital.

North West police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the investigation revealed that at the time of the incident the driver did not have a drivers licence.
"The suspect’s court appearance follows his apprehension on Monday after he failed to produce the licence.
"It came out during investigation that the suspect was a learner driver and that he had at the time of the incident a learner’s licence."
He will face charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving as well as driving without driver’s licence.
