Tshwane areas mopping up after flooding
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Persistent rains starting over the Christmas weekend have caused flooding in certain areas of Tshwane.

The city's Emergency Services Department spokesperson, Charles Mabaso, on Tuesday said firefighters had to dig trenches to divert water from affected houses in some areas.
“The affected areas include Ramotse, Kanana, Marokolong, and Mashemong villages in Hammanskraal," Mabaso said.
"The rain had damaged many homes, but our personnel managed to assist some families and provide shelter.
“We assisted in moving an elderly woman from a house where the water was at knee level.
"A family of 2 adults and 3 children were sheltered at Sebothoma hall after being issued with blankets and mattresses."
Disaster management officials also assessed 9 households that reported incidents of flooding, where the yards were water locked with water getting inside the houses.
“Of the 9 households, only 1 agreed to be sheltered at Sebothoma Hall," Mabaso explained.
"Other households did not agree to temporary sheltering out of concern for the safety of their belongings.
“No loss of life or injuries were reported as a result of the reported flooding incidents and the affected households' cases were escalated to the Community and Social Development Department for further interventions.”
