Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city is aware of an outage at Kwagga Substation.

"The city is aware of an outage affecting Gomsand, Orchards, Rosslyn, and Soshanguve. The power outage has been caused by  132KV  on Rosslyn lines 1 and 2.

“The team of technicians is already on site. The estimated time of restoration will be made available in due course," said Mashigo.

He said technicians have also been dispatched to investigate the cause of the water outage in Soshanguve.

"The city is observing no supply to the Soshanguve L reservoirs. Rand Water has been alerted and is assisting the City of Tshwane technicians in resolving the problem. Rand Water is also checking supply to the Heights reservoirs, supplying Kirkney and surrounding areas via Hercules reservoirs.

Meanwhile, the city said some workers affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers Union remain on strike, which has led to a significant interruption in the delivery of services in the city, including electricity outage repairs, water restoration, and refuse removal.

The union's secretary in Gauteng, Mpho Tladinyane, said they will join the city at the bargaining council at the end of August when it applies for an exemption from paying agreed-upon salary hikes to workers.

"All this information will be brought before the senior commissioner appointed by the bargaining council. The bargaining council has appointed a finance expert. Samwu has its own finance expert, so there will then be a financial inquiry. From there, the senior commissioner will then issue an award.”
