Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The Tshwane coalition government has laid criminal charges against ANC councillors for allegedly assaulting the Speaker of Council Murunwa Makwarela.

The charges include assault, intimidation and deprivation of movement
The incident took place on Tuesday during a heated meeting of council, with Makwarela allegedly hit on the head and on other parts of his body by ANC councillors.
Makwarela said anarchy in the council cannot be tolerated.
"Police will investigate the matter further, and the relevant councilors have been identified and will be subjected to disciplinary hearing according to the code of conduct in the council.
"Sanctions will be leveled against them, because this behavior cannot be tolerated.
"There has to be some level of decorum in the chamber as promoted by the rules and orders. So effectively I want to ensure as speaker of council, that the business of council is protected, and the executive go ahead with their mandate to discharge service delivery to the residence of City of Tshwane."
