Tshwane continues to battle water, power outages

Tshwane residents continued to be plagued by water and electricity supply issues on Wednesday.

Residents from several parts of the Pretoria CBD were the latest to be plunged into darkness due to an unplanned power outage.

The city’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, said the lights went out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“A team of technicians will be dispatched to investigate the cause of the outage with a view to restoring power.”

Meanwhile, the Temba water treatment plant in Hammanskraal remains down due to a power outage, affecting the water supply in the area.

Last week, Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment plant in Vereeniging was damaged by a thunderstorm.

The power failure resulted in the loss in production of 2000 million litres of water per day and impacted all three of the Gauteng metros: Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg.

Bokaba said the Temba water treatment plant makes use of electricity supplied by Eskom.

“According to the power utility, its technicians are onsite working on repairs. The plant is expected to be operational as soon as the repairs are concluded. Only the Hammanskraal area is affected”.

“Customers will be kept abreast of the developments.”
