Tshwane council set to elect new mayor
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Tshwane council is expected to elect a new mayor on Thursday.
The election follows the resignation of Democratic Alliance (DA) mayor Stevens Mokgalapa, whose last day in office was on Wednesday.
The DA will be putting Randell Williams as its preferred mayoral candidate.
DA provincial leader John Moodey says it's important that a new mayor is elected by council to ensure that services are delivered to residents.
"One of the main things that have to have is that we need to elect a mayor because without one we don't have an executive and therefore you don't have an administration.”
It is still not certain whether or not the DA will remain in power in Tshwane.
This is Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema made it clear that it wants to assume power in the capital city and would be willing to work with any party that is prepared to vote one of its members in as mayor.
