DA to lay criminal charges against ANC in Tshwane

The
Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane plans to lay criminal charges against the African
National Congress (ANC).
This follows an allegation that the ANC forged signatures on a petition that sought to call a special council meeting to remove the speaker in the City of Tshwane.
The party says a preliminary investigation by the Office of the Speaker has revealed that some of the signatures were forged.
DA Chief Whip in Tshwane, Mpho Mehlape-Zimu says the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) dd not forge signatures on their petition though but had merely made an administrative error.
“The EFF took their register from file; there was nothing illegal about it was just old,” says Mehlape-Zimu.
“With every new petition, you need to get new signatures, so they used the register which they filed for the meeting of the 5th December.”
She adds that Since the ANC’s register was questionable, the EFF’s register didn’t constitute a majority of council.
Mehlape-Zimu adds it is on that basis that the Speaker declined to have a meeting on the day.
“If it is found that our colleagues from the ANC did indeed forge those signatures… we will take the matter to the SAPS,” she says.
She adds she will be taking the matter to the Ethics Rule Committee to investigate the conduct of the councillors.
