Tshwane to head to court, licencing centres remain shut
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Driving licensing centres in some regions of the City of Tshwane remain closed due to the ongoing protest action by members of driving schools.
Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) that are still shut are Mabopane, Akasia, Temba, Centurion, Rayton, Watloo and Bronkhorstspruit.
The Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport Dikeledi Selowa saysthe disruptions are linked to the strike by members of the National Driving School Association of South Africa (NDSASA), who kicked off their protests on 24 February and where there have been sporadic incidents of violence.
“As a result of the violence shown by protestors to both staff and clients, the City of Tshwane’s Roads and Transport Department took a decision to cease operations in order to protect lives and infrastructure."

Members of the NDSASA are demanding that the online e-NaTIS booking system be cancelled.
Selowa adds that the City is in the process of applying for a court interdict against the protestors.
“We will not tolerate lawlessness in Tshwane. Protesting driving schools should not be allowed to hold customers for ransom. I wish to convey my sincere apologies to customers who are inconvenienced by the interruptions.”
