Tshwane lifeguards down tools as summer kicks in
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The City of Tshwane has decided to close seven municipal swimming pools during weekends and public holidays.
The city's spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the decision follows a go-slow by the city's lifeguards.
"We are currently engaging in discussions with the lifeguards. We are waiting for them to officially log their grievances. They are currently on a go-slow. Therefore we had to shut down all the swimming pools in the resorts, given that at times they're not available. We simply could not risk not having them at our pools."
The swimming pools will still be open on weekdays.
"The effected swimming pools are in Ga Mothakga Resort, Kwaggaspruit Resort, Klipkruisfontein Resort, Fountain's Valley Resort, Moretele Park Resort, Derdepoort Resort and Joos Becker Caravan Park."
Mashigo says financial implications of the closures could be dire.
"These are swimming pools within resorts. This go-slow comes at a crucial time when residents want to enjoy themselves. We as the city are concerned."
