Residents in several areas have been without power for almost five days due to ongoing repairs at the Wapadrand substation.

The substation caught fire and exploded on Saturday.

The affected areas include Faerie Glen, Zwavelpoort, Lombardy, Wapadrand, Valley Farm, Silver Lakes, Tierpoort, Koedoeberg, and Donkerhoek.

Williams says technicians are working day and night to restore power.

"This is now the 5th day where electricity has been off because of the fire that broke out at the station. I know it has been a very trying time for the residents, especially while we are experiencing cold weather conditions, but we are committed to getting this problem resolved so that you can have your electricity back as soon as possible.

"The officials have been working throughout the night, the councillors have been involved every day and night so that they can communicate the message to the residents. We can understand the frustration. We encountered several technical problems, but we are getting there, I think at the end of the day we will get what we want and that is restoring electricity."
