This after metro police  officers were deployed to man a Sunday service at the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church.

Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says the application for the officers to be deployed was done by the church and not by Bushiri.

"Yes, we were there to police the event and not to police an individual, like it was indicated in the article.

"The event is happening and it's affecting the public road and hence members our members go there to control traffic at the intersection or at the entrances of that particular event. That's not policing an individual."

Mahamba also denied claims that services had been rendered to the church free of charge.

"We can confirm that yesterday the amount that was being owned by the church to the city was about R50 000 and we can confirm yesterday that they paid about R29 000.”

The church has made an undertaking to pay the balance by end of business on Friday.
