A memorandum was issued on Wednesday warning the metro police department that members will have to show their appointment certificates if requested by the public.

Tshwane Community Safety MMC Grandi Theunissen says at least 30 Tshwane police members have been arrested over the past year.

"The memorandum is authentic, we have been encountering bad behaviour by the metro police for several number of years who were extorting money in different places around the city, and we have had enough.

"We are busy with the campaign since last May, we have been driving this campaign to ensure that we get these guys identified and they need to be brought to book."

Currently, two officers are facing 18 charges.

"Court cases are ongoing, two officers are facing 18 different charges, we need to get rid of these guys as there is no place for them and they cannot continue terrorizing the public,” said Theunissen.

"I have had incidents reported from all over the country where even visitors to Tshwane have been harassed by the metro police members.

"We are enforcing discipline at all levels and that's why we published the memorandum, and we are involved with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate."
