Police in Limpopo are investigating a case of bribery against a KwaZulu-Natal-based colleague and her brother.
The KZN-based officer and her brother were arrested in Polokwane on charges related to the soliciting of a bribe from a group of suspected robbers.
The five suspects allegedly robbed a jewellery store at the Savannah Mall in Polokwane last month.
They fled with stolen goods worth millions of rands.
The KZN officer allegedly offered R40 000 to the investigating officer not to oppose their bail application.
She was arrested soon after handing an amount of R37 000 to the investigating officer in Polokwane on Wednesday.
"The suspect, after handing money, quickly got into a car driven by her brother not knowing that the trap was already set,” says Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.
“Operational members who have been observing the process tried to stop the vehicle which sped off and the car chase ensued”.
"Police subsequently managed to corner the said vehicle along N1 south, about 10km from Polokwane.”
The two suspects are set to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
