Tshwane raises concern over water infrastructure vandalism in Bronkhorstspruit
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The city of Tshwane has warned that constant vandalism of water infrastructure in Bronkhorstspruit deprives residents of their right to have clean water.
This comes after reports of a Mahindra bakkie is suspected to be involved in meddling with water valves in Rethabiseng EXT 4.
Tshwane recently restored water in Rethabiseng after weeks of a prolonged water outage caused by the breakdown of a water pump at the Bronkhorstspruit water treatment plant.
"Shortly after water supply had been restored and the deployment of water tankers stopped, reports have emerged from some quarters in the affected areas indicating possible sabotage in the form of tampering with the City’s infrastructure," said the city spokesperson Lindela Mashigo
It is presumed that the alleged saboteurs of the water infrastructure are drivers of the Mahindra bakkie in question, a supposition that is yet to be proven.
"Officials from the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) have been activated to conduct operations in the area.”
