Tshwane licencing centres open for business on Wednesday

The City of Tshwane says it will resume operations at all its driving licencing testing centres and motor vehicle registration offices on Wednesday.
The services were suspended after weeks of protests by affiliates of the National Driving School Association of South Africa.
Last month the association blocked roads in Pretoria and Johannesburg as they were marching to the Road Traffic Management Corporation, demanding changes to the NATIS system.
Roads and Transport MMC Dikeledi Selowa says they are experiencing a service delivery backlog as a result and cannot generate enough revenue.
“During this time, protestors intimidated staff and clients, forcing us to cease operations to ensure the safety of staff and clients, and to protect our infrastructure. Protesting driving schools should not be allowed to hold customers for ransom.
“The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has obtained a court interdict which must be enforced, despite the provincial government interdict, the City of Tshwane will continue with its application for our own court interdict against NDSASA to prevent possible violence and property destruction at our DLTCs.”
The city’s interdict application is expected to be heard on Wednesday.
