Tshwane sends water tankers to areas affected by Rand Water ‘explosion’

The City of Tshwane has sent extra water tankers to areas experiencing shortages due to the explosion at Rand Water’s Palmiet pump station in Alberton.
Rand Water said three medium-voltage pumps exploded on Sunday.
The affected areas in Tshwane include parts of Centurion, Rosslyn, Mabopane, Soshanguve and Garankuwa.
Parts of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni are also impacted.
Tshwane Spokesperson Selby Bokaba says Rand is only able to supply 55% of its normal volume.
“In our quest to ensure that the residents get water, we procured ten water tankers and dispatched them to parts of region 4, south of the city, and they seem to be covering the area sufficiently.
“An additional ten water tankers have been dispatched to some parts of region 1, north of the city, to supplement the 22 that was dispatched yesterday due to the size of the area.”
He warns that the situation might get worse.
“Last evening, Rand Water informed Tshwane that they had managed to get an extra one pump up and running, however, their system still has a shortfall of 300 Mega Litres to be fully operational.
“The City of Tshwane's system can only recover once the Rand Water one is back to full operation, or the situation will remain like this, or might even get worse.”
