Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster said 20 cases were under investigation following violent protests in Tshwane.
Government has condemned the violence and destruction of property which swept through various areas yesterday and continued throughout today.
A call for calm has been made, with ministers saying the situation is being closely watched.
Government has increased police visibility and will be monitoring all major hotspots overnight.
Chairperson of the security cluster, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said violence and damage to property would not be tolerated and those who were guilty would face the full might of the law.
"We have noted the criminal elements who have taken advantage of the situation by disrupting the socio-economic activities which has led to the closure of certain businesses, for instance here in the CBD. No public space will be turned into a no-go area. Government reiterates that any form of intimidation or looting by protesters will not be tolerated," Mapisa-Nqakula said.
Government said it has also noted that the violent protests were not confined to the capital.
