Police are out in full force to try and get the situation in Tshwane under control where protests in various parts of the city have broken out in reaction to the ANC's decision to replace current mayor Kgosientso 'Sputla' Ramakgopa with former cabinet minister Thoko Didiza.

Clashes have been recorded in Mamelodi in the east, Atteridgeville in the West as well as Hammanskraal and Soshanguve in the northern parts.

Ramokgopa is also expected to address the media at the same briefing in Pretoria.

Earlier today, Ramokgopa sent out a statement appealing for calm.

"We call upon the community, residents and structures of ANC to embrace the unifying decision of our party and to desist from acts of violence in my name and we condemn in the harshest terms such actions. We reiterate that the foundation laid in the last five years will be executed deligently by the collective of the new council and executive post August 3 elections," he said.
