Tshwane urges residents to be vigilant amid rise in Mpox cases

The City of Tshwane on Thursday called on residents to be vigilant amid a rise in cases of Mpox.

Six cases have been confirmed countrywide, with two deaths reported in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
MMC for Health Rina Marx said the city has not recorded any cases of Mpox.
"However, this can change at any moment. The City of Tshwane Health Department would like communities to remain vigilant.
"If you suspect that you may have contracted Mpox, seek medical attention in order to ensure early diagnosis and effective treatment to prevent the further spread of the disease.
"All health care workers remain in a state of vigilance to monitor persons who present mpox-related symptoms."
Mpox is an illness caused by the mpox virus, symptoms can include skin rashes or lesions, fever, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen glands.
These often present as flu-like symptoms.
The virus is transmitted from an infected person to another through close contact with lesions, sexual contact, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials (linen, needles or clothes).
