Tshwane warns Soshanguve, Mabopane reservoirs ‘struggling to fill up’

The City of Tshwane on Tuesday said some of its residents would continue to experience low water pressure due to the Soshanguve and Mabopane reservoirs struggling to fill up.

It said this is due to maintenance work carried out by Rand Water at the Haartebeeshoek Reservoir, which began last week and is yet to be concluded.

Issues with the bypass method, which the water utility uses to supply water, have led to reservoirs slowly running dry.

Affected reservoirs include Mabopane Central at (73%), Mabopane Main (35%), Mabopane (12%), Sosha L North    (18%), Sosha L South (26%) and Sosha DD (37%).

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba has urged residents to reduce consumption.

“The city is still waiting for the water utility to advise on the progress of the maintenance. Water tankers have been deployed and are coordinated in conjunction with councillors.

“Residents that have water are urged to use it wisely and sparingly”.

Meanwhile, some Joburg residents are still without water following Rand Water’s 58-hour planned maintenance project to tie two valves between the A19 and B14 Pipelines.

Rand Water says a pocket of air in a pipeline is the cause of water flow restrictions in parts of the province.
