Tshwane hit by major pipe burst
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
A water supply outage hit several areas in the City of Tshwane due to a massive pipeline burst behind the Mercedes-Benz dealership near Bosman Station.

City technicians are on the ground in an attempt to pinpoint the source of the rupture, which could be from either a critical 1,000mm supply line linked to the Salvation Reservoir or a 700mm line from the Findlay Reservoir—both key arteries in the city’s water distribution network.
City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed that, in a bid to isolate the problem, valves at both reservoirs have been shut off temporarily to run diagnostic tests.
“Once the affected pipeline is identified, excavation will begin to expose the pipe and assess the full extent of the damage,” said Mashigo.
The incident is expected to impact the water supply in surrounding areas, and residents are being urged to stay alert for further updates as emergency crews work to stabilise the situation.
Areas to be affected by the shutdown:
• Pretoria CBD
• Sunnyside
• Eastwood
• Arcadia
“The estimated time for restoration is currently unknown. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” Mashigo added.
Meanwhile, Hammanskraal residents were warned to expect a possible water outage on Wednesday.
This is due to maintenance work that is expected to last 10 hours.
The shutdown of the Temba Water Purification Plant is to allow technicians to clean Temba Reservoir Number 3.
