Tshwane's Black Friday offer for accounts in arrears
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
City of Tshwane residents are urged to take up a Black Friday deal offer from the City of Tshwane to settle their municipal accounts.
Residents in the capital region who pay their accounts in full by Friday, 29 November 2024, qualify for 100% discount on interest charged.
“City of Tshwane is offering its residents the greatest Christmas ever,” announced Tshwane Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, Eugene Modise.
He said the City’s Black Friday offer started on the 19th of November and expires on Black Friday.
Last month, the City of Tshwane wrote off R32 million owed by households that can no longer pay.
A report presented to the council revealed that 250 households were approved for municipal debt write-offs, based on decisions made by the city's affordability assessment committee, which determines whether to extend or forgive debt.
Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus chairperson Jacqui Uys stated that while Tshwane must take a firm approach to debt collection, it also has a responsibility to support those residents who are unable to pay.
