TUT to resume lectures after agreement with SRC
Updated | By ANA
Lectures were scheduled to resume this week at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) after an agreement on the academic programme was reached with student leaders, the institution said Wednesday.
The students held protests on Tuesday and marched to institutions such as the SA Reserve Bank and the SA Revenue Services (SARS) where they handed in memorandum of demands.
“All academic and support staff will resume their duties on Wednesday, 28 October 2015. All academic activities will resume on Thursday, 29 October 2015, to allow students time to return to campus and to settle in,” the university said in a statement.
“The calls for quality free education is a long-term endeavour and will continue, but at this point in time we believe that it is extremely important for the academic programme to continue, to prepare for exams and allow our students to successfully complete this study year.”
Classes would be extended to Saturdays and Sundays and library hours would also be extended to allow students time to catch up on their academic work.
Examinations would start on 18 November and end on 9 December.
“Results will be published on 18 December 2015, while re-examinations will be written from 4 to 15 January 2016,” the university said. - ANA
