The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has suspended classes at its Pretoria West and Ga-Rankuwa campuses amid ongoing student protests.
Students are unhappy over various issues, including the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) payments and historical debt.
An agreement was reached between management and students on Friday that protest action will be suspended to allow academic activities to resume on Monday.
But fresh protests broke out at the institution’s Pretoria West and Ga-Rankuwa campuses on Monday morning.
TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter says in the interest of safety the decision was made to rather suspended academic activities again.
“Academic activities at the Pretoria campuses will remain suspended tomorrow. The continuous student protest has resulted in the suspension of academic activities at all our campuses from 26 February.”

Academic activities at TUT’s other campuses will continue on Tuesday, with more talks planned between management and student leaders from the Pretoria campuses.
“TUT management deliberated on various memoranda on the issues that gave rise to the escalating student protest at various Campuses,” says De Ruyter.
“We have already scheduled some of the tests and we will ensure that students aren’t affected by these protests activities.”
