Tutuka performance showing improvement, says Ramokgopa

Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says the performance of much-maliagned Tutuka Power Station has shown significant improvement.
The power station has been labeled as the worst-performing of the Eskom stations, with its struggles contributing massively to the country's electricity crisis.
The station has also reported several cases of fraud, theft, and sabotage.
Ramokgopa briefed the media on the performance of the electricity grid on Sunday.
“Tutuka has been one of our worst-performing power stations but due to recent intervention, Tutuka has moved from 1 unit onload to 4 units onload,” the minister said.
He said the main reason for the implementation of stage 6 this past week was units which kept tripping.
“The biggest reason on why we hit stage 6 was because of the units that keep tripping and part of the reason why we are lower today is because we have removed 2000MW of units that have failed and returned them back so the grid has the benefit of more megawatts.”
Ramokgopa said the planned maintenance and the capacity lost factor have contributed largely on the escalation of rolling black outs.
“The current outlook is that for the rest of the week we should be at stage 3 and 4, as we continue to ensure that we improve on the health of these units.”
