ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident occurred on the N3 Highway near the Gilloolys intersection.

“Paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the wrecked vehicle lying on its side near the barrier,” he said.

Meiring said occupants from the vehicle were found lying in two lanes of the road.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that 12 people were injured in the collision, one of them critically.”

Paramedics began their treatment of the patients while metro services began closing off some of the lanes of the highway, Meiring said.

“Treatment and advanced life support interventions were performed on the critically injured taxi driver to stabilise his vital signs,” he said.

Once treated, the critical injured patient was airlifted by the ER24 Helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

The remaining patients were treated on the scene before they were transported to nearby facilities for further care.
