National police spokesperson Solomon Makgale told News24 on Thursday that two people were arrested during the raid, which began at 22:00 and ended at 04:00.
"Police arrested one person for possession of an SA National Defence Force uniform [and] one was arrested for dealing liquor without a licence."
A panga, a stolen laptop and 9kg of dagga were seized.
This was the second raid to take place in Johannesburg this week following Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula's undertaking on Tuesday that the army would assist police in areas countrywide where xenophobic violence had flared up.
Seven people have been killed during the violence in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in the past weeks.
Jeppestown raid
On Tuesday night, 11 people were arrested for possession of dagga and suspected stolen goods during a raid at the Jeppestown men's hostel.
They were expected to appear in the Jeppestown Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
A resident at the Alexandra hostel told eNCA on Wednesday night that he felt his privacy had been violated.
"This hurts my feelings, they can't wake us up like this using violence. I have done nothing wrong, I came here to work and now this. They say we have freedom but I don't feel that way, I am really hurt," he said.
