Two arrested for fraud in Western Cape

Two people have been arrested for attempting to open an account using fraudulent documents, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

Captain Fredrick van Wyk said the man, 42, and a woman, 34, tried to open an account at a cellphone shop at the Waterfront for about R40,000 on Saturday.
A clerk became suspicious and notified police.
"Police investigated the matter further by visiting the homes of both suspects. They recovered equipment to falsify original documents, such as a laptop, printers and scanners".
Around 174 identity document, most of which had their photos removed were also seized.
The two would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where they would face charges of forgery.
