Two bogus cops nabbed in Joburg

Police have arrested two men in Houghton for impersonating police officers.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday.
They were found in possession of two firearms, one unlicensed and one replica, balaclavas and multiple cell phones.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the anti-kidnapping task team, Joburg metro police and a private security company had been observing the pair for the past two weeks.
They were found in possession of R16 000 cash suspected to have been obtained from victims.
"They are alleged to have been posing as police officers and extorting ‘protection fees’ from business owners in and around Johannesburg.
"One of the suspects was found with a SAPS appointment card. Preliminary investigations have revealed that both imposters are not in the employ of the SAPS."
They are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Central Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges of impersonating a police officer and being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
