Two children killed in Mpumalanga shack fire
Updated | By Maidi Monareng
Two little girls have died in a shack fire in Brondal in Mpumalanga on Wednesday morning.
The sisters - aged two and three - were reportedly home alone when the shack caught fire at around 06:30, paramedics say.
The incident happened at a squatter camp on the R37.
Netcare911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says: "We found the children still lying under the bed where they died."
The girls were declared dead on scene.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Netcare911 urges parents not to leave children unattended.
"We also plead with parents to be careful with the use of candles and paraffin stoves during this winter season," Mathe says.
