Two children killed in Orange Farm shack fire
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Two young children have been killed after a shack caught fire in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg.

The two kids, aged 2 and four years old respectively, were killed on Monday evening.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the pair are suspected to have died from smoke inhalation.
“The cause of the fire incident is believed to be a lit candle which was left unattended while in use. The children’s mother survived the incident unharmed, as she was believed to have gone to the nearby shops to buy more candles because there was no electricity in the area.”

A seven-year old boy survived the blaze and was taken to the nearest hospital.
“We would like to take this opportunity to urge all adults and parents out there to make sure that they monitor all heating devices and not leave them unattended while in use so we can prevent fire incidences like this one,” Mulaudzi says.
