Ipid has urged victims of rape, child abuse and domestic violence, whose cases were not properly investigated by the Seshego Police Station, to come forward.

This comes after a police officer was charged with rape, but had the case withdrawn before it could be investigated by Ipid.

Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigate Directorate, Grace Langa, says the officer who is a ZCC priest allegedly raped one of his congregants while praying for her, and when he complained to her, he said he was removing a “Tokoloshi” from her body.

The victim reported the rape to police the next day.

But, the police officer then allegedly paid two female police officers R1 500 each to make the victim unknowingly sign a withdrawal statement and make the docket disappear.

The two women took the victim to the doctor and later went to her home, allegedly to make her sign the withdrawal statement, Langa says.

They would be charged with defeating the ends of justice and would appear in court on 30 September.

Ipid recommended internal disciplinary action be taken against the two women, who have since been removed from handling cases involving sexual offences or child abuse.

Meanwhile, the rape case against the police officer has been reinstated and would continue at the Seshego Regional Court on Thursday.
