Two due in court over football violence

Police had to resort to teargas after the Nedbank Cup semifinal descended into chaos.
Two suspects are due to appear in court on charges of public violence, malicious damage to property and the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
They were arrested amid the violence at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, after the Nedbank Cup semifinal clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars descended into chaos.
Chiefs fans stormed the pitch when Amakhosi lost the match 2-0.
Police used teargas and strun grenades to disperse angry protestors who, among others, attacked a security officer.
The police's Nqobile Gwala confirmed there were injuries but were unable to confirm how many.
"Some of the properties at the stadium were damaged, like chairs, cameras and other properties. Investigations are continuing and more arrests are imminent."
Meanwhile, Minister of Sport and Recreation Thokozile Xasa has condemned the violence.
"Minister Xasa strongly condemns the incident that happened there where people actually have to storm the pitch and disrupt and obviously threaten people's lives," says the minister's spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga. "It can't carry on like this and the minister wants action to be taken and she wants answers from the PSL (Premier Soccer League) as well as the stadium management. What happened? Where was the security? How can we prevent this thing from happening going forward?"
