Two heist suspects killed in KZN shootout

Two suspects wanted in connection with a series of cash-in-transit robberies in several provinces were shot and killed by police in Verulam, north of Durban.

The suspects were also believed to have been involved in house robberies and farm attacks.
Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the two suspects’ vehicle was intercepted on Saturday.
He said the suspects started firing shots at police, who retaliated.
A shootout ensued.
“After the shootout, two suspects were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds. One suspect narrowly evaded arrest and fled from the scene in possession of a rifle. A manhunt in search for him is already underway,” Netshiunda said.
The two suspects were among a group of 15 who attempted to kill TRT members during a foiled cash-in-transit robbery in Nkandla in August 2019.
“The very same suspects were later arrested but absconded from court after they were released on bail,” said Netshiunda.
“A firearm was found in the possession of the deceased suspects.”
