The boy's death is said to be what sparked the violent protests in the town.

The police's Sabata Mokgwabone says the pair will appear in court on Friday.

"The 12 year-old allegedly alighted from a moving vehicle which was driven by a farmer. Two men aged 26 and 23 were arrested yesterday in Coligny. They are expected to appear in the Coligny Magistrates Court on Friday, facing a charge of murder."

Residents have set alight at least three houses as well as several trucks during the protests.

They have vowed to continue protesting until the culprits are arrested.

A family member of one of the arrested men says they have not had the opportunity to see them since the arrest.

“At this stage we have not had any contact with them. This morning we were not allowed to see them, we hope by this afternoon we would be able to see them and give them some food and information.

The family says buildings belonging to them have been demolished by the protesting community.

“ To see everything that you and your family has built up for years of hard work, to see it demolished and torched was heart-breaking.”
