Two killed in stampede at FNB Stadium

Two people have been confirmed dead after a stampede at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

Thousands of supporters gathered at the stadium for the Carling Cup clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs when the incident occurred.
MMC for Public Safety in Johannesburg Michael Sun confirmed the incident.
"It's very unfortunate and tragic that we now learn that there has been two confirmed deaths as a result of the stampede and several injuries," says Sun.
While Sun was unable to confirm the number of those injured, or the extent of their injuries, he says they are being treated at the scene.
Gauteng traffic authorities earlier said the expect around 100 000 people to gather in the Nasrec precinct for the match.
It is unclear at this stage exactly what lead to the stampede, but Sun explains there are allegations that the selling of fake tickets at the gates "caused a stir and therefore resulted in the stampede".
The match between the two Soweto giants has however resumed and police are out in full force to ensure calm.
