Two suspects appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday for inpersonating Hawks officials.
The two are facing charges of extortion and corruption.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, 42-year-old Stanley Ewulu, a Nigerian national from Sandton and 38-year-old Peter Molomo from Pretoria West attempted to scam their victim out of R300 000.
“It is alleged that the pair approached the complainant, introduced themselves as Hawks investigators from the Pretoria office and demanded R300 000 in order to destroy a case docket that was opened against him.

Mahanjana says the complainant reported the matter to the Hawks in Germiston.
“After investigations, the pair were arrested on 10 March 2022, at Time Square in Menlyn Pretoria after an entrapment operation.
“The matter was postponed to 22 March 2022, for further investigations and possible bail applications”
She adds that Ewulu will also face immigration charges.
