The Impala Platinum mine released a statement late last night, confirming that two mine workers are trapped underground after a fall of ground at its Rustenburg operation.
According to mine management, the two miners went missing earlier in Tuesday.
Spokesperson for Impala, Johan Theron said on Wednesday morning that the miners have not yet been found that that their main concern remains the safety of their workers.
"Five teams have been dispatched on a circular basis, working all the time to try and open up the area," Theron said.
He added that they remain hopeful that the miners are still alive and that they are doing whatever they can to rescue them.
