Port Elizabeth duo probed for illegal abortions want bail
Updated | By ANA
Two women accused of performing 25 illegal abortions and disposing the foetuses were expected to apply for bail in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s court on Friday.

A registered nurse, Lulama Cabela, and her alleged receptionist Babalwa Cabela, face 25 counts of concealment of birth.
The women were arrested in February following an ongoing investigation into illegal abortions in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Police discovered foetuses in a deep freezer. A source close to the case said 25 of the bodies were fully formed.
Police earlier said their investigation was prompted by complaints from a hospital, which deals with complications arising from illegal abortions.

The charge sheet indicates that Lulama Cabela was employed as a registered nurse at a facility that provides pre-natal and post-natal care to mother and child.
The state alleges that the nurse used the facility and her home to perform illegal abortions.
