Two shot and killed near Winterveld tavern
Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who shot and killed two people near a tavern in Winterveld on Monday evening.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says a white vehicle with four people inside arrived at a place where a group of people were standing around a fire.
He says the occupants were looking for a local businessman.
“One of the suspects came back and approached the businessman, where he allegedly fired several shots at him. The suspect also fired shots at the people that were standing around the fire, two of them were hit by the bullets,” says Masondo.
The three victims were rushed to the hospital where two of them, including the businessman, died on arrival.
The third victim is recovering in hospital.
Masondo says although there is a tavern a few meters from the crime scene, it was not operating at the time of the incident.
“The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage. Police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder for investigation.”
