The province has seen a surge of burglaries and school fires since the start of the national lockdown.

Four schools have been damaged by fires in Soshanguve online, while 19 schools around the province have been broken into or vandalised.

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested after community members caught him in the act at Tembisa High School.

The other suspect, a 27-year-old man, was nabbed at Tharabollo Secondary School.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko says other government institutions have also been burgled.

“There have been burglaries in clinics. I am not sure what they want in cinics, we do not know what they are looking for but the police are investigating.

“Remember, they cannot go to court because courts are not functional for now but I am 100% sure we will be able to share who and where are some of those people who have been arrested.”

One of the suspects has also been linked to various other robberies in the Sedibeng area.
