Two men will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of possession of a kilogram of suspected uranium and 90 ecstasy tablets, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
The men, in their early 20s, were arrested on the Bluff in Durban on Thursday in an operation involving the organised crime unit, crime intelligence, and the minerals and energy department, Colonel Jay Naicker said.
"The investigation began when police intelligence revealed that two foreign nationals were looking for potential buyers for narcotics and uranium."
The suspected uranium was handed over to the SA Nuclear Energy Corporation to confirm whether it was genuine uranium.
KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: "We are pleased that our intelligence was able to uncover the deal before these suspected items were sold on the black market".
