In Pretoria, a primary school learner was struck by a vehicle on her way to school on Alwyn Road in Nellmapius.

According to Netcare 911, the accident happened at about 7.10am.

"When Netcare911 paramedics arrived on scene, we found paramedics from the Provincial EMS already on scene. After assessing the little girl, it was found that she had succumbed to her injuries," Netcare 911 said.

She was declared dead on scene.

In Johannesburg a young girl, believed to be aged between six and eight, was killed after she was hit by two vehicles on the R512 near Lanseria, north of Johannesburg.

ER24 said paramedics arrived on scene at 7.40am and found the body of the little girl lying next to the road while a light motor vehicle was found lying in a ditch.

"Paramedics immediately assessed the patient and found that she had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the young girl and she was declared dead on scene," ER24 said.

The driver of the light motor vehicle, a woman, was assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries.

"It is believed the child was hit by a vehicle while walking to school. This vehicle then apparently fled the scene. A second light motor vehicle apparently swerved to avoid a collision, lost control and came to rest in the ditch."
